For The Lulz (kinda ranty)
MovingonRecently, Dark Knight has been getting some readers and reviews. Which I'm not complaining about, but I really have my hands tied with it, don't I? It's already a complete story. I won't change it. Mostly, the reviews are something along the lines of "I read this halfway through, found out the pairings, got pissed, but decided to read the rest anyway because I made it that far."
Which I can respect!
I wanted to write Dark Knight like a 'real' novel. I didn't want it to be pure romance (though it got pretty sappy in some chapters) or pure anything. I wanted a balance. Kinda like a shounen manga; lots of fighting, not a lot of girly stuff. I'm pleased with how DK turned out for the most part, since it matches with that goal o' mine.
But what really pisses me off/makes me laugh is an anonymous review I got the other day. (The oh-so-kind sender didn't leave an email address, lest I would have replied and that would've been the end of it.) I've also already deleted it, because it doesn't deserve to be on Dark Knight's review page.
The review is as follows:
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDING ME??!! I WENT THROUGH ALL OF THAT JUST FOR HER TO GET MARRIED TO HER COUSIN!? GOD THIS WAS A HUGE WASTE OF TIME! YOU SHOULDA PUT IT UNDER NEJIHINA NOT DEIHINA! THATS WAT ITS FOR!! ):<"
Spelling and grammar errors aside, does anyone else get any humor from this? I certainly do. I just want to run up behind this mysterious reviewer and shout "surprise!" and smack them on the head or something.
First off, the thing that really rubs me the wrong way: I put it under DeiHina? WHERE? Where on god's green earth does it say Dark Knight is DeiHina of all things?! I don't support that pairing. Why would I donate a 99-chapter novel to a pairing I don't support? I may not be aiming for a romance but it doesn't mean I'm not getting any gratification out of this.
I put Dark Knight under the categories "Adventure" and "Drama". Anyone disagree with me with me there? No? Hmm. Then maybe it's the fact that I attached the characters "Deidara" and "Hinata H." to it. Suddenly, because I'm using popular characters, the fangirls rush over to see!
And they expect a DeiHina just because the characters are Deidara and Hinata.
I cannot express in words how much this torques me off. What the hell, really. What. The. Hell. Just because two characters are labeled does not mean they're a pairing! I'm well aware of the fact that ff.net's authors use the character system like that, to designate pairings, but I will not go down to their level. Deidara and Hinata are undoubtedly the main characters, right? They just happen to fall for other people. And what is so wrong with that? TELL ME PLZ I FEEL LIKE I'M MISSING SOMETHING HERE.
Plus, guess what? I don't write pairing-stories. At least not multichaptered ones. I tried once and failed horribly. So instead I wrote an action-y piece. I am not going to waste a year and a half of my life writing some sappy romance for a pairing I don't like to please the masses.
Anyway. Lulzy. I still laugh at that review. (Then again, I also laugh at other 'flames' or whatever they're categorized as. Are they flames? Or just stupid...?)

Uhh, WK is going on a long hiatus. I'm headin' off to college and that'll sap up my time, and I've run out of inspiration anyway. So... yeah. I'll continue it sometime. <3
